Ducati DesertX versus CRF250RX for motocross?😂︱Cross Training Enduro

I originally got my DRZ400E in 2017 for offroad riding on weekends. MPE upgraded the suspension for a 112kg rider, and I put a 20 litre tank on it, some barkbusters, and Yoshimura system. It did alright out in the bush and I could definitely keep up. Then the kids came along and I turned it into a commuter by putting Harley Davidson tyres on it and 15/32 sprockets and a LED headlight, and of course, rack with a milk crate wired to it. Now it's even better!

i saw the perfect line to keep up with Mitch on my R1200GS...roll into the middle of the paddock, put the Boxer to rest and watch from the altered reality view standing atop the mound as i keep a close eye on the roost flying out from the back wheel of the Desert X; i found that i could keep up pretty easy and even had to back off to avoid the chunks of earth being thrown at me until i identified the spot where i could slip the GS under him and throw some Beemer Roost at him...the right hander where he would always lose traction was the spot; i'd simply wait until he eventually high-sided unto Terra Firma, start the Beemer and click into first to casually ride down in front of him laying on the ground and with a handful of front brake and aggressive throttle turning i would fill him in; this proves you don't always have to be the fastest or the bestest on any given day, just the smartest.

Barry, I can thank (or blame, hah ) you for getting me interested in the pursuit of becoming a better off road rider - it helped me make the decision to replace my 1989 NX250 with a DRZ400 as I got better. I can thank (or again, blame) Adam Riemann and his original 'Velocity Disorder' video for reigniting my nostalgia for the CR250R - I'd had a '96 and remember watching Ricky Carmichael's dominance atop an 01 CR250R - this lead me to seek out and buy an '01 to rebuild as a street legal woods bike. Finally, I can straight up blame Pol Tarres, FortNine BeRad and the sweet exhaust note of Yamaha's CP2 for getting me to take a brand new, 0 mile 2023 T7 off the showroom floor, immediately strip it to the bare running gear and rebuild it as a big dirt bike that gets hucked around the same back woods tracks and trails my DRZ and CR do.

I did go through the plugs to add dialectic grease but every plug was coated. Not sure if dealer or from factory. OI pump tube has been secured nicely and no rubbing spots. I didn't get the upgraded radiator for tighter turning. That's a bummer. Or the upgraded seat. Bike is great, and looks sharp! Got back into riding 3 years ago. Was on an older crf250x. Wanted something with low end grunt and this Def has it. Suspension is still stiff but looks like I need more hours before it sets in. Speedo cable issue I had was that it came unplugged. Took a second to correct the issue. Love hearing it sing.

After about two years of non-riding due to a medical problem, I recently bought my second Xtrainer, an unused '22 model. The first thing I did was put shortened, revalved KYB open chamber forks from a 2002 Yz125 on it (I had done the same to my first xt also) they will fit into the xt triples by reducing the fork diameter at the lower clamp about 2mm. The shock works fine for me. The '22 carburetes better, and the counter- balanced crank makes for a very smooth, linear rev up. The smooth predictable power delivery, lower seat height and light weight make for a perfect tight trail ride...that can handle some pretty tricky trails both slowly and quickly as, you will.

I found the skid plate beaver tails tend to get worn through by the linkage and snap off if you hit it a lot. I fitted a plastic guard as well that is much wider than the linkage so it distributes the load across the whole beaver tail instead of just a small area in the middle. It definitely helps the beaver tail last longer if you are having issues with them wearing through and snapping.
